Leaders from Webuye East led by MP Hon. Alfred Sambu and Bungoma nominated MCA Martin Pepela have vowed to work closely to help the less fortunate people especially those living with disabilities within the Sub County.
Addressing the press at the constituency headquarters in Webuye town after donating a wheelchair and more than twenty thousand shillings to eighty-year-old Robai Mwila from Marinda village in Ndivisi ward, Sambu said he was touched by the way the old lady lived.
“I met mama Robai a few weeks ago while traversing the Sub County to access development projects and she looked very desperate, tired and sickly, I was touched as a normal human being and I had to find a way of helping her,” said Sambu, adding that he was happy that she has finally got assistance.
Hon. Sambu said he will in future set aside a kitty to help those who are abled differently. He assured his constituents that he’ll work hard to fulfil the promises he made during his campaign period.
“In most cases we tend to forget the people living with disability in the community who need to be helped to secure education, shelter, and clothing and even those who need wheelchairs and special walking sticks,” said Sambu, “Therefore I call upon leaders within the Sub County to work in unison when it comes to helping our brothers and sisters who need special attention.” Nominated MCA Martin Pepela supported Sambu’s gesture “I want to hail our MP for showing empathy to the less privileged and marginalized in the community. That is a great gesture that should be emulated by all leaders within our county,” said Mr. Pepela.
He called on parents and guardians who are still hiding children and people with disabilities to come out saying there are a lot of funds in the county, meant for people who are abled differently, and if they don’t come out, it will be hard to identify them and give them the necessary support. “We should do away with the mentality of hiding our disabled children, because if we do, them how do we expect them to be identified and helped?” asked Pepela.
In matters politics, Sambu asked leaders from Western region to come together and form a formidable team, “We must choose one of our own and in this contest I wish to stand with Amani coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi who is a national figure and has the capacity to take this country to where its required destination,” said Sambu.
