Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has wished Busia County residents a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. “May the spirit of the season bring you closer to those whom you cherish so much. Thinking warmly of each of you and wishing your family an extra measure of comfort joy and hope this Christmas and a joyous, 2017,” he said.
However, the governor urged families to spend wisely during the festive season bearing in mind schools will open in the first week of the New Year.
“Engage in the celebrations in a civilized way, devoid of excessive spending. It is good to remember your school-going child who will require financial and material support as he or she reports to school. Form one students will report on January 9th, a break from the previous tradition where they were reporting later. This calls for wise spending to avoid situations where they become victims of circumstances,” he said.
The Governor also revealed that his government has set aside Sh112m for both mainstream and Ward bursaries to benefit orphans and vulnerable children who are pursuing their secondary education.
He asked parents or guardians of the recipients to collect bursary applications forms from their respective Ward offices and have them filled and returned for immediate processing.
Ojaamong said no student who cannot afford fees to pursue his or her dream career will be left out of the programme. He wished them success in their future endeavours.
