Deputy President William Ruto has castigated the opposition for having a scheme to create a parallel tallying centre during the coming general elections.
Ruto urged political parties and politicians in the country to support IBEC for it to conduct free fair and peaceful elections.
“We should give IEBC political goodwill to deliver credible and transparency elections,” said Ruto.
Speaking at Karas AIC Church in West Pokot County during the ordination of Bishop David Kasieton, Ruto urged leaders to take responsibility and shun violence during elections.
“We want the church to come in and pray for peace as we approach the general elections. Leaders should commit themselves to ensure peaceful elections,” he said.
Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen said politicians should value the lives of Kenyans.
“Never again shall Kenyans shed blood at the expense of politics. We as Jubilee shall abide by the law and we shall accept the elections results,” he said.
He faulted CORD leaders who boycotted the leadership summit in Kwale saying they should follow suit to ensure peace prevails in the country.
“They should stop trying to forge another tallying centre and join us. We stay together,” said Murkomen.
However, Jubilee and KANU supremacy battle played out in the church before the Deputy President even after AIC Bishop Silas Yegoh warned politicians over speaking about political issues in the church.
It all started when West Pokot senator John Lonyangapuo in his speech told the Deputy President that KANU will support Uhuru Kenyatta for the presidency in the next polls urging him not to interfere with the gubernatorial, senatorial, and other elective posts .
“You have been hearing of rumours and propaganda that KANU will not support President Uhuru. We as a county shall support Uhuru Kenyatta 99.9 % but Mr. DP leave the other seats for KANU,” said Lonyangapuo.
He maintained that West Pokot was a KANU zone accusing Jubilee leaders of spreading lies and propaganda.
In response, the Deputy President accused the former ruling party KANU of marginalizing the region.
“I have ever been saying that West Pokot county doesn’t have a shortage of fools to be cheated. We cannot be told to support the party that caused the suffering of our people,” said the Deputy President.
The DP said that the Jubilee has overseen a lot of development in the area citing that residents from the North Rift will not be cheated.
“People suffered for a long period, which means that was no government. That government is the one that marginalized the area. Jubilee has transformed the region,” said Ruto.
West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin said they will support William Ruto in 2012 for the presidency. “We shall give all our votes to Jubilee in 2017 and after that support William Ruto in 2022,” said Kachapin.
Other leaders present were Aaron Cheruiyoit (Kericho), Kipchumba Murkomen (Elegeyo Marakwet) and MPs David Pkossing (Pokot South), Phillip Rotino (Sigor), Samuel Moroto (Kapenguria), West Pokot Deputy governor Titus Lotee , former Kapenguria MP Julius Murgor
and West Pokot county commissioner Apollo Okello.
The DP also toured Alale area in North Pokot for a funds drive at St Comboni Amakuriet Secondary School.
