A top performing boy in the 2016 KCPE exams in Busia County who scored 421 marks, Edwin Ochieng, is distraught after failing to get a place in any national school after the selection ended on Tuesday.
Ochieng from Victory Junior Academy had opted to join Starehe Boys Centre which was his first choice. His second choice was Friends School Kamusinga in Bungoma County.
Victory Academy Teacher Collins Odunga said Ochieng has vowed not to join any school apart from Starehe Boys Centre, his dream school.
Odunga said what makes Ochieng more upset is the fact that his other colleagues have joined national schools of their choice. Protas Bwire who scored 417 has joined Alliance High School with Arnold Sande who got 409 marks joining Mangu High School.
Alpha Lumula from Nambale Magnate who was the joint top scorer with 421 marks has joined Nairobi school with the classmate, Jackson Ojwang who scored 420 marks picked to join Alliance High School.
The top boy in Teso North Francis Omunyongor from Adanya Primary School has joined Maranda High School in Siaya County. Calvin Ekisa who scored 416 marks at Booker Academy has got two admission letters from Nairobi School and Kapsabet Boys. His Father Okemo Omtatah said he has opted to take him to Kapsabet Boys.
In a related incident, the top girl from Ekisegere Primary Pauline Wabwire is also in shock after she missed to join all the four schools she had chosen and instead was selected to join Kipsigis Girls which she had not selected.
“I had chosen Alliance Girls High School as my first choice. I don’t know how I landed at Kipsigis Girls which I never selected. I worked for it but why I never joined Alliance Girls nobody knows,” she said.
The top Girl in the County Sharon Ngore Wele from Masendebale Primary in Butula has joined Alliance Girls which was her first choice school.
