Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Anne Gakuria has urged residents to surrender all the illegal firearms they have to the nearest police stations before the actual process of confiscation takes place. She said it has come to the notice of security agencies that most people in the county have illegal firearms, adding that all security agencies will work together to get rid of the firearms if people will not comply with the order.
The Trans Nzoia county commissioner said security agencies have already procured gun detectors which will be used to detect illegally owned firearms.
She, however, appealed to politicians to carry out their campaigns peacefully and avoid engaging in acts that can cause chaos and disrupt peace in the community. She also warned politicians not to use the youth to cause chaos, as she urged the youth to desist from acts of hooliganism as we approach the general elections.
And on the controversial Chepchoina land that has been a centre of controversy among several tribes staying at Endebess and Kwanza Sub Counties, the county commissioner called for calm as the matter is being handled by the court, and promised to provide enough security for residents in the area.
She condemned a politician, who she didn’t name, for interfering with the process of trying to settle the residents in the area, promising that every community residing in the area will be considered for resettlement next year before elections.
On his part, Trans Nzoia county governor Patrick Khaemba criticized the laxity shown by civil servants, saying most of them have hatched a habit of neglecting their duties while the citizens suffer.
Khaemba said most public servants are not dedicated to their work and they’ve been making up excuses just to skip work, and he expressed his disappointment with the manner services have been offered in public sectors.
The county chief called upon nurses to resume work, adding that the strike is not benefitting the residents of the county.
He, however, called upon residents to visit Mt Elgon Hospital for treatment promising that he has made plans with the nurses and doctors at the facility, who will be treating patients.
The county chief criticized some politicians for politicizing the ongoing construction of the referral hospital, calling for sobriety among the leaders.
He said the construction will continue, and he called upon the residents to support the project.
