Following attacks on the Kenyan Defense Forces in Somalia, Cherangany MP Wesley Kipchumba Korir has urged the government to withdraw the forces from the country to avoid more deaths of innocent Kenyan citizens and security forces.
Korir said there was no need for the troops to continue their stay in the country which has failed to live in established peace and democratic governance.
The MP said the Somalia people haven’t yet seen the importance of working towards a long lasting peace solution in the country, citing that the troops’ presence there won’t change much. He said several families have been affected following the deaths of their breadwinners.
He urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to deploy the troops along the Kenyan border instead to secure the entry points of Kenya. He said the Kenya-Somalia border isn’t safe either.
His comments come after Kenyan soldiers were attacked in Somalia in Kulbiyow, an incident that drew public attention in the country.
