University learning has been paralysed countrywide after lecturers downed their tools today. UASU and KUSU unions have vowed not to return to work until the government implements the 2015 CBA.
The unions, however, have vowed not to obey the court order barring them from going ahead with the strike.
“We shall not relent neither shall we obey the court order which we haven’t seen in the first place until when our cries are heard by the government,” said George Ouma, UASU member from Moi university.
Earlier, the Secretary General of UASU Constantine Wesonga had reiterated the fact that the strike notice had been given on time, “My line of communications have been open but nobody has contacted me,” said Dr. Wasonga, citing the week-long notice that had been given before the university staff strike.
Nairobi university medical students on the other hand, have taken to the streets to protest the ongoing doctors’ strike.
They have vowed not to go back to class until the government pays doctors given that some of them are their lecturers and that therefore the strike has adversely affected their learning.
These continuum strikes come at a time when the country is nearing elections leaving Kenyans clueless about the state of the strikes and protests.
