The Kenyan government has vowed to appeal the decision by the High Court stopping the closure of Daadab camp, after Justice John Mativo overturned the government’s decision to close the camp.
Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe said that the Jubilee administration is law abiding and they will obey the decision by the court and appeal the directive.
“The closure of Dadaab camp has always drawn varying interests and opinions, both nationally and internationally. However, we as a Government have the cardinal responsibility of providing security for all Kenyans,” he said.
He added that Somalia will now have a stable government and that the refugees will have a stable country.
Government spokesperson Kiraithe said that 51,727 refugees have already voluntarily left Daadab camp and returned to Somalia. The voluntary repatriation process is being undertaken in collaboration with the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the UNHCR.
