Anglican Church of Kenya Katakwa Diocese Bishop John Okude has cautioned elders against being influenced by leaders with cash inducements to choose leaders during the general election.
Speaking at ACK St Stephen’s Keng’atuny Church in Teso North during confirmation mass for 25 candidates, Bishop Okude urged the elders to remain sober and not allow bribes to influence their voting pattern.
“Don’t ‘destroy’ any candidate who is seeking nomination for various seats. They are all our sons and daughters whom we shall seek for assistance in future, irrespective of the elections results,” he said.
Bishop Okude challenged the youth not to be used as agents of violence by politicians but to chose wisely and embrace peace during the August polls.
He told politicians not to use the youth to cause mayhem during campaigns saying they will need the same youth in future.
The Bishop thanked the IEBC for extending the Mass Voter Registration exercise, which ended on Sunday, by five days. He hoped that areas which had initially recorded a low number of voters boosted their numbers.
Busia County Executive Committee Member for Public Works, Roads, Transport and Energy Bernard Yaite who attended appreciated the projects the County Government has implemented in Keng’atuny including solar borehole at the Secondary School, ECDE classroom and roads.
