As voter registration reaches the final stages all over the country, currently Vihiga County has a total of 27,392 new registered voters.

These figures are deemed to be way below the expected target of over 100,000 in the entire County.

This is the breakdown of the total numbers of registered voters per every Constituency in Vihiga County.

EMUHAYA CONSTITUENCY – 4350

VIHIGA CONSTITUENCY – 4200

LUANDA CONSTITUENCY – 5202

HAMISI CONSTITUENCY – 6512

SABATIA CONSTITUENCY – 7128

Sabatia Constituency IEBC Coordinator Benson Ambuko said there are many residents with shared Identification numbers saying they have advised those affected to go for verification before the end of the exercise.

He said Sabatia Constituency alone has 224 residents with shared identification cards and if they don’t show up for verification they will not be allowed to vote in the coming general election.

Vihiga Constituency IEBC coordinator Benson Isuza said they have been forced to call those with shared IDs numbers to come to their offices for assistance.

“We are now reaching out to those with mishaps to come to our offices to seek help, we don’t want to lock anyone out,” he said.

Lillian Luluma the IEBC Coordinator in Luanda Constituency has advised politicians in the region to mobilize locals to come out in large numbers and register citing voter apathy as the cause for low voter registration experienced in the area.
