IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has assured Kenyans that the electoral commission is ready to conduct the August general elections, refuting claims from different quarters that the commission isn’t prepared.
Speaking at the launch of election reporting guidelines in Nairobi, he said none of those who have complained or voiced their displeasure with the commission have visited the IEBC office to officially present their challenges.
The IEBC Chairman urged security agencies to ensure there is sufficient security for Kenyans during and after the elections. He indicated that the Fourth Estate should present true, fair and detailed reporting on election matters, as it’s ethically expected from them.
NCIC chair Francis ole Kaparo cautioned media fraternity owners and journalists eyeing any political seats against influencing the independence of the media to sell their own political interests.
Ole Kaparo urged editors to regulate the presentation of news to the designated target audience. He encouraged Kenyans to ensure the politicians’ credibility stands, holding them to account for statements they make in their respective parties.
