Kegoye secondary school in Vihiga Sub County is set to be renamed after first Education Cabinet Minister the late Joseph Daniel Otiende. The secondary school situated at Kegoye village was started by the late Joseph Otiende who was a pioneer educationist.

Vihiga MP Yusuf Chanzu said the institution will be renamed after the deceased in his memory and love for education. “Mzee Otiende started this school for the benefit of our people and it is through this gesture and honour that we must appreciate his efforts to improve education among the locals,” said Chanzu.

He said the school will be called Joseph Otiende Kegoye secondary school after Board of management approves the name before forwarding it to the Ministry of Education.

Former Westlands MP Fred Gumo also asked Vihiga County government to have a statue in the memory of the fallen hero who was buried on Saturday at his Kegoye home in Vihiga Sub County aged 100 years.

The late Otiende was also awarded elder of the golden heart (EGH-Vihiga) medal by the county government of Vihiga for his gallant service to Kenyans.

Area Governor Moses Akaranga assured the residents that they will take the move to ensure the late Otiende is remembered for his dedicated service to the citizens and future generation to come.
