Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Busia Campus will admit 50 nursing students in April to bring the total number of students at the college to 103.

The KMTC Principal Dominic Ndombi said the Nursing Council of Kenya will meet on April 4th to give the approval on whether the College has met the requirements needed to have the Nursing class.

Speaking when he hosted Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong who presided over the opening day of the second semester for 53 students undertaking clinical medicine, Ndombi said the nursing class will start soon after the approval.

The ceremony was meant to create awareness to the County residents on the importance of the institution together with courses on offer.

“This event is very important as it gives out free knowledge. I call upon residents to take this greatest opportunity and embrace the courses being offered here,” the governor said.

He urged MPs and the Senator to come up and complete the construction of the campus since it needs togetherness for its completion.

Ojaamong encouraged the students and told them that they should strive harder to be able to produce the best clinical officers better than doctors.

He promised to construct another KMTC at Alupe and encouraged students from the border Counties to apply for courses at the college.

The County Executive Committee Member for Health Dr Maurice Simiyu applauded the governor for improving the institution’s security by fencing the entire college and the playground.

The governor will ensure the area around your Campus is tarmacked and street lights set all over the place to enable easy movement at night to Busia Teaching and Referral Hospital, Dr Simiyu said.

He also assured them a solar powered borehole for easy access to water and power to ensure E-Learning is taking place.

CEC for Education Hillary Makhulu, said that Busia is the first county to build and materialize an operational KMTC.

Director of Medical Services Dr Janerose Ambuchi praised the event and described it as a great opportunity to show the world what they offer.

She urged investors to come in and boost the County. “Our goal is to have an excellent campus that offers good education to the youth in Kenya,” she said.
