West Pokot County Governor Simon Kachapin has faulted NASA’s plans to set up a parallel tallying centre during the general elections. Governor Kachapin said the demand by the opposition to set up a parallel centre is unconstitutional and would not augur well for the country’s peace.
Kachapin noted that their decision could be a recipe for chaos because IEBC is the only body mandated to have a tallying centre for monitoring and releasing results.
“We need to trust the institutions we put in place, both the opposition and the jubilee government participated in selecting the IEBC commissioners and there is no need to doubt them,” he said.
He added that by allowing the opposition to announce their own results, confusion will arise.
“It’s like they’ve already predicted they’ll lose and they are thus giving conditions saying they may refuse the results,” he said.
Kachapin further exuded confidence that Jubilee will defeat the opposition hands down come the August general election because of its development track record. “Kenyans will elect leaders based on their development track record and not on their ethnic backgrounds. Gone are the days when some leaders banked on their respective communities to get elected,”
Kachapin said.
Speaking at Ortum High School during an Annual General meeting, Kachapin noted that Kenyans will have an opportunity to choose between leaders who are focused on development and those who aren’t.
Concerning West Pokot County politics Kachapin refuted claims that Jubilee party is divided, saying that those who are claiming there are two factions of Jubilee in the County are just panicking.
He added that those purporting to belong to ‘Jubilee B’ have been funded by the opposition to sabotage the party in the County.
