As several candidates in the Kimilili parliamentary seat gear up to fight for the party nominations, they are crisscrossing the constituency to ramp support for themselves in efforts to oust the incumbent Suleiman Murunga in the August polls.
Amani National Congress (ANC), an affiliate party of the NASA coalition has attracted three contestants so far including Dr. Peter Makokha who comes from Bituyu village who says he wants to provide proper alternative leadership to the people of Kimilili.
Speaking after touring Kambini area in Kimilili ward, Makokha said the poverty level in Kimilili Constituency is high and he is looking forward to start up cottage industries that will be able to help the residents get employment and raise their living standards.
He said women can be able to gain weaving skills from village polytechnics and be funded to start up their own weaving company to supply school uniforms to schools around instead of working under orders.
Dr Makokha, who is optimistic of clinching the party nomination ticket to be held on 25th April, said he will also ensure the Boda Boda sector is empowered by ensuring they save a portion of their daily earnings, and will help them in endeavours to buy public service vehicles of their own.
Dr Makokha said he is fit to be the next Kimilili MP and called upon residents of Kimilili to support his bid.
However, he lashed at the current Member of Parliament Suleiman Murunga for having failed to transform the lives of the people of Kimilili saying they are yearning for a more focused leader who will be able to uplift their lives.
In Matili, Joe Khaemba who is eyeing the seat on a Jubilee ticket was launching his bid saying he decided to be in the party because it is only by the government that one can be able to foster many development projects for his people.
He said having vied through an ODM ticket in 2013, he has learnt his lessons in politics and is ready to deliver the people of Kimilili from poor leadership and called upon the party to carry out free and fair nominations in the forthcoming nominations.
Mr Khaemba said he will be conducting door to door campaigns to ensure he clinches the seat in the August polls and be able to transform the constituency to be a model constituency in the country.
Others who are eyeing the seat in ANC include Dr. Edwin Masinde, a former Kenyatta university lecturer and engineer Chris Kikechi; in Jubilee they include Didmus Wekesa, Engineer John Wenyaa and Rose Natecho; in FORD-Kenya they include Suleiman Murunga, Nicholas Simiyu Tosana, Mathews Makanda and Richard Masinde Sibilibili.
