Lugari and Likuyani MPs secure direct party tickets

Lugari and Likuyani MPs have smoothly secured themselves tickets to defend their seats after failing to attract opponents to warrant nominations.

Lugari’s Ayub Savula who was elected on United Democratic party Forum (UDF) in the 2013 general election will be seeking re-election on Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket in the 8th August polls.

Savula who is also the ANC deputy party leader has already secured his candidature after failing to attract opponents in his backyard as the party prepares to hold its primaries in Kakamega county on Thursday 20th April 2017.

However, the party has attracted a total of twelve aspirants county representative post whereby nominations will be conducted only in two wards of Lumakanda and Mautuma where there are four aspirants each.

The exercise will not be conducted in Lugari, Chekalini, Lwandet and Chevaywa wards after the current members of county assembly Musa Wangila Makhapilla, Titus Kwoma, Sikuri Namasaka and Pius Juma respectively secured their tickets due to lack of opponents.

In Likuyani four contestants will battle for the ANC party parliamentary ticket. The aspirants include Dr Evans Taracha, Bright Lidaga Kyadiva, Dr.Charles Luseno and Evans Musungu. The County representative seat has attracted 18 contestants and nominations will
be conducted in all the five wards.

Elsewhere Likuyani MP Dr Enoch Kibunguchy who was elected on an ODM ticket in the last generally elections before decamping to Ford Kenya has also secured a Ford Kenya ticket unopposed.

In Lugari parliamentary seat, Ford Kenya has two contestants; Joseph Karungani Lunani who will face Patrick Sande in the Friday’s nominations.

Jubilee’s Joab Maleya Kinzi has also secured his ticket to vie for Lugari parliamentary seat while Stephen Kisaka and Wamboko Makhanu awaits Friday’s nomination to know who will carry the Jubilee flag in Likuyani.

In the concluded ODM party primaries in the area, Nabii Daraja Nabwera was nominated unopposed to vie for Lugari parliamentary seat, while Deberious Shikuku Wafula emerged victorious in Likuyani after flooring his opponents Sadat Macharia Muhindi and Magellan Otanga. Shikuku garnered a total of 3,401 votes against Muhindi’s 1,523 while Otanga got 1,137 votes.
