The Kenya National Union of Teachers officials and the teaching fraternity in Nandi are lamenting the death of Nandi Central KNUT Executive Secretary, the late Mr Silvester Talam who died on Sunday.
Speaking to West Media at Kobujoi in Aldai constituency, KNUT Secretary for Nandi South, who is also Nandi Executive Secretary Mr Stephen Misoi, on behalf of KNUT officials and teachers, gave a message of condolence to the family of the bereaved.
Misoi said the late Talam was a unionist who always worked tirelessly to ensure teachers are defended, adding that they’ve lost a superior leader. He revealed that Talam had been ailing for quite some time, and he was battling a heart ailment. Misoi said his demise is a loss to Nandi and the entire country. “I have lost a true friend and a colleague who worked with me, together as a team,” he said, clouded with a sad mood.
Misoi said the late Talam was re-elected last year as the Secretary of the Kenya National Union of Teachers for Nandi Central after losing the seat to the current Women representative for Nandi Hon. Zipporah Kering in 2012.
His burial is slated on Wednesday next week and a Harambee will be held this Saturday at his home in Kiborgok village, Kapkangani location, Nandi County. All the well-wishers can help in the preparation and contributions during the planned Harambee.
