Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has launched Unga Galana maize flour. The first batch flour from Galana Kulalu irrigation scheme will go for Sh.75 per two kilogram packet.
The launch comes after the national government recently zero rated tax on flour and allowed the import of duty-free maize to cut down the escalating prices.
Galana Unga prices will be half the prices of other maize flour currently in the market.
The CS says that the flour has already been milled and is in stores for soon distribution in the country.

Last year various leaders opposed the Galana-Kulalu project in Tana River saying that it is a failed project since it failed to meet its real intended purpose which is to ensure food security.
The Cabinet Secretary for Water and Irrigation together with his Principal Secretary Patrick Mwangi however dismissed the claims urging leaders to be patient and positive about the project.
The government is hopeful that the project will definitely curb hunger issues in the country. Wamalwa says that the Galana Unga maize flour will also be a solution to the current high flour prices in the market.
