After completion of party primaries for various parties across the country, Kimilili residents have been challenged to be keen not to choose leaders basing on parties they’ve been nominated to vie through in various seats but gauge their ability to deliver. Speaking to hundreds of faithful at Voice of God church in Bituyu, Kimilili parliamentary hopeful on Jubilee ticket Didmus Wekesa Barasa said parties are only avenues used by politicians to propel them to their various seats but development is achieved by individuals.
He said people from a certain region cannot pride themselves on having many people in good positions in government but what they are doing for them in terms of development adding that parties cannot provide development on their own.
He, therefore, called upon residents of Kimilili not to be swayed by political aspirants who, in their campaign trails are urging them to vote for aspirants in one party for all the availlable posts saying it will be suicidal for them.
“I decided to be in Jubilee party because I felt it has the right ideologies which will be able to help the people of Kimilili to deal with the poverty levels many of them are in at the moment but it will be my own initiative to ensure I put up measures to ensure my people benefit,” he said.
Didmus further cautioned politicians against using foul language in their campaigns against their opponents in order to gather votes saying it is against the law for one to abuse his opponents just to gain some political mileage.
He cited an incident where one of the gubernatorial aspirants in the County has been using a song composer who sings songs in his campaign trail, which have insults directed at the incumbent governor Kenneth Lusaka saying it is bad manners.
He urged the Kenya police service to ensure such characters are arrested saying campaigns should be carried out in a peaceful manner.
