Governors’ wives from Counties in the former Nyanza and Western provinces have formed a campaign Caucus to spearhead re-election of their husbands in the August 8th general elections. Speaking in Lugari Sub County, Mrs Margaret Makelo who is the chair of the caucus and also wife to Bungoma Governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka said the group comprises 10 governors’ wives, and they want to help their husbands secure another term in office to complete the development projects they have initiated.
She said the team includes Naomi Nyagarama (Nyamira), Elizabeth Ongwae (Kisii), Hellen Obado (Migori), Pricilla Oparanya (Kakamega), Olivia Ranguma (Kisumu), Rosella Rasanga (Siaya), Judy Ojaamong (Busia), Rose Khaemba (Trans Nzoia) and Rosella Awiti (Homa Bay) and herself.
Mrs Makelo revealed that as County first ladies, they are using their good relations with women in their respective Counties to woo support for their hubbies.
The chairlady said incumbent Governors had initiated various development projects that are supposed to take more than five years to complete and for them to accomplish their development plan they need to be reelected for a second term.

“We should allow the incumbent governors to finish all the good plans they have for their respective Counties before we remove them from office,” said Mrs Makelo, adding that a five-year term was too short for the performance of a governor to be evaluated.
Mrs Makelo, who was flanked by Mrs Oparanya and Ranguma, said the current governors took much of their time strategizing and putting up structures and deserve five more years to complete their agenda since they were better placed to steer development in their Counties because they have mastered the areas of need.
She said they will form a broader campaign unit in their bid to win re-election for their spouses revealing that they are set to start with Busia County to drum up support for the re-election of Governor Sospeter Ojaamong.
