The County Government of Kakamega has commissioned a massive bridge over River Nzoia at cost of Kshs 120 million to improve road connectivity between Matungu and Navakholo sub-counties of Kakamega and Bungoma County.
Area residents welcomed the project saying the 85-meter long bridge in Khaunga area would accelerate the growth of agri-based industries in the County by creating better connectivity to new markets in the region for farm products.
The bridge, one of the 15 commissioned so far, was officially opened by the Governor of Kakamega County Wycliffe Oparanya before proceeding to Shianda shopping centre to open the County’s new Kshs 40 million modern market stalls for small traders.
The project is among the seven accomplished in the County so far. Besides this, the County Government has also fabricated and installed 765 modern kiosks across markets in the County.
Addressing huge crowds during rallies in the two areas of Mumias East Sub-county, Governor Oparanya said the projects were among several that will be commissioned by his Administration in less than three months time.
