About nine administration police officers were today involved in a road accident at Mahanga and sustained severe injuries after a parade rehearsal for tomorrow’s celebrations. The officers were being transported from Kidundu grounds in Vihiga Sub County to Mahanga police base after their morning practice to mark Madaraka day celebration tomorrow.

Area County AP commander Martin Kibet said some officers who sustained major injuries were rushed to Kisumu for specialized treatment. “We have been able to evacuate four officers to Kisumu for treatment while another five have been transferred to Jumuia hospital in Hamisi Sub County,” said Kibet.

The commander was speaking at Vihiga referral hospital when they moved the police officers from the facility. It is alleged that the medics at the institution were on a go slow and it took the intervention of one of the senior local administrator to persuade one of the health officials to attend to the patients.

According to one of the medics who did not wish to be named, the health officials are on a go slow and this prompted the senior administrators to transfer the officers for better medical treatment in other facilities.

Our efforts to talk to Vihiga Medical superintendent of health Emmanuel Ayodi were futile as he was held up in a meeting for the better part of the day.
