Over 1000 land squatters from Setek farm in Tinderet Sub County, Nandi County have received their title deeds for the first time since independence. The squatters who hail from the border of Nandi and Kericho Counties waited for over 40 years to receive the crucial land documents.

The title deeds, which were issued by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta are set to solve the land problems in the area.

CS Bett said that Jubilee is addressing land issues in all parts of the country so that no one will use the land issues to gain political mileage, adding that Kenyans are in dire need of the title deeds so that they can indulge in productive activities to improve their lives.

Tinderet Member of Parliament Julius Melly and Nandi Senator Stephen Sang, who were also present, lauded the Jubilee administration for waving all land rates and survey costs. The legislators said that the title deeds were part of the 3 million title deeds promised by the Jubilee administration as election pledge in 2013.

The issuance is a boost to residents because the place is highly fertile and favours the growth of tea, coffee and maize.
