Former South Africa President and leader of the AU Election Observation team Thabo Mbeki has said they are pleased with the readiness of leaders when it comes to discussing election matters ahead of the polls. The AU team are currently meeting leaders and stakeholders involved in election preparation, after meeting President Uhuru Kenyatta and Chief Justice David Maraga among other leaders. While addressing the press on Friday after meeting acting Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Thabo Mbeki said they’ll update the media on the progress they’ve made after meeting all stakeholders including leaders of the opposition outfit NASA and IEBC.
He said they’ve noticed that everyone is ready, “Fortunately we are very pleased that everybody we are requested to meet starting with the President is ready,” he said, “Am glad that everybody in the country is responding very positively.”
In a previous meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Chief Justice David Maraga, the delegation expressed confidence that the elections will be peaceful. Chief Justice David Maraga assured the AU Delegation that all systems in the Judiciary are ready, including designation of magistrates who will deal with election related cases.
The AU Election observation group joins the EU (European Union) Election observation group, who are already in the country, highlighting the global focus towards Kenya as we head to the polls.
