Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has affirmed that adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure the coming August elections are conducted in peace. According to Boinnet, the security officers have done to maintain security since the party primaries.
“We have plans in place to ensure there is enough security before, during and after the elections,” he said.
Boinnet noted that the police service is working in partnership with other state and non-state agencies to ensure that the elections are peaceful, free and fair.
He has urged the key players such as the Judiciary, IEBC, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the church to all ensure elections are peacefully held in a secure environment.
During the press conference, the police boss dismissed reports indicating that at least two police officers had been killed in Lamu County, following an attack on Pandanguo Police Post by Al Shabaab militants on Wednesday morning.
“The police in the area were engaged in a fight with the militants who reports indicate destroyed a mast in the area to impede communication before embarking on the early morning raid,” said Boinnet. He also dismissed any connections with reports that trained officers are silently following NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
