Labour Principal Secretary Dr. Khadija Kassachoon has urged women in Bungoma County to be aggressive enough and take up tenders set aside for them constitutionally in the County as well as the national government to be empowered.

Speaking to hundreds of women drawn from several wards in Mt Elgon constituency Dr. Kassachoon said through the tenders the women can be able to access loans that will enable them through groups be great entrepreneurs and be self-reliant.

However, she expressed her concern over the fear of several women to take up loans with the fear of the stern measures to be taken in case they don’t pay up saying with proper planning and record keeping they will be able to repay the loans in good time.

She added that the Jubilee government through President Uhuru Kenyatta has also been very close to women and called for their support for his reelection to enable him to strategize to achieve more for them saying a lot is in the pipeline.

The PS also assured the women that the president himself has been on the frontline to ensure women get their rightful share in the society as well as in the political scene saying there has to be equality for all in Kenya.

However, she called upon them to maintain peace ahead of the general election saying the exercise will only be carried out for a day and life will continue as usual saying peace must prevail and they should be incited to cause chaos.

She was accompanied by Mt Elgon Deputy County Commissioner David Kosgey who insisted on the message of peace among the residents of Mt Elgon saying the security agents will be on stand by and will also be conducting patrols all over the constituency to ensure residents are safe.
