Former FKF president Sam Nyamweya has urged the government to move with speed and assure CAF of the country’s commitment to hosting the African Nations Championship (CHAN) next year. The championship is played between African nations with players who take part in respective national leagues representing their countries, and should not be mistaken with the African Cup of Nations.
“I want to call upon the government to move fast and inform CAF that we would burn the midnight oil to ensure the completion of all the stadiums in good time,” he said.
He lauded the government for committing to the project, “I’m thanking the government for committing resources to this project and giving contracts to contractors to undertake the massive work. I urge his excellency, President Uhuru Kenyatta, to intervene and save the country from the impending embarrassment that may result from CAF taking the decision to move CHAN elsewhere,” he said. Other countries have expressed an interest to host the tournament, reportedly Ethiopia, Morocco, and Cote d’Ivoire.
