The speaker of the senate Ken Lusaka has assured residents of Bungoma County that he will be willing to support development projects in Bungoma County despite having been elevated to hold a higher rank in the country.
Addressing residents at his Mapera home in Kimilili constituency of Bungoma County, Lusaka said he still has the interest of the people at heart and is will be more than glad to be able to help when called upon to do so.
He said previously while campaigning to retain his seat as Bungoma governor he was optimistic that the people of Bungoma County would re-elect him saying after the results several people advised him to reject the results but his conscience and love for people could not allow him to do so.
“ I could not accept to cause mayhem in the County by refusing to accept the results but rather I decided to move ahead to explore other available opportunities and fortunately God was on my side and I managed to become the second speaker of the senate in the country,” said Lusaka.
He joked that he had never imagined that he would become a speaker in any house in the country, maybe his own house.
However, he faulted the Luhya unity call saying when he showed his interest for the speaker’s seat he pleaded with Senators from Western region to support his bid but unfortunately only one responded, saying it is unfortunate that they don’t support what they usually preach all the time.
He further thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta and President William Ruto for having accorded him an opportunity to serve as the speaker in the senate saying he will work diligently to deliver in his duties as the speaker.
Elsewhere, Kimilili Member of parliament Didmus Wekesa Barasa has called upon Kimilili residents to show up in large numbers at Amtalla stadium to welcome President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Samoei Ruto in their visit to his constituency.
He said the only gift the people of western Kenya and Bungoma County can give to president Kenyatta will be to vote him in again as the president in the re run of the elections to be held on October 17th saying it is only the Jubilee government that has an agenda for development.
He also assured residents of Kimilili constituency that he will work hand in hand with them to ensure their lives are improved saying he will also conduct an audit of the projects that were initially started by his predecessor Suleiman Murunga before completion.
The tough talking MP also called upon the NASA coalition members to accept the date set by IEBC for elections saying they should not focus much on who will be in charge but check on the process of the system put in place to carry out the exercise.
Hon Didmus said he will be in charge of the committee of National Government Constituency Development Fund saying development must be realised.
