The Vihiga County government and Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) have reached an agreement on how to settle the Ksh 67 million debt. Governor Wilber Otichilo held a meeting with (KEMSA) Chief Executive Officer Mr. Philip Omondi and Corporation Affairs Secretary Mr. Fred Wanyonyi in his office where they discussed ways of settling the debt to facilitate a steady supply of drugs to health institutions in the County.

Otichilo explained that they are preparing a memorandum of understanding between his Government and (KEMSA) on how to clear the debt.

“We will meet next Friday to sign the MOU. I am happy that we have agreed on settling the debt and soon our health facilities will start receiving the drugs from the Authority,” said the Vihiga Governor.

He said KEMSA had stopped the supply of the drugs to the County for non-payment of the debt.

The meeting was a follow up of a similar one held in his office last week. Among the issues that were discussed was how to end the nurses’ strike for a restoration of full services at the County Health facilities.

The meeting resolved that the County Government will focus on partnering with health stakeholders to ensure completion of ongoing and stalled projects to ensure delivery of quality and most reliable health services.
