Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has affirmed that the national examinations will go on without any disturbance, despite the political situation in the country. While addressing the press at Githurai Primary School in Nairobi, CS Matiang’i said preparations have been accomplished, “Those who are supposed to do an exam will do the exams wherever they are in the four corners of the republic, and no one should worry about it,” he said, “I can report to you that as we speak today all Sub County centres in the country have received the exams.”
The KCPE exams are set to start on Tuesday, and he said that the issue of national examinations is of topmost priority to the government, “It’s what we are paid to do, and the exams are in their respective containers and the plans are already in place and push ahead,” said CS Matiang’i. He said they have collaborated with the security department to ensure that security challenges don’t hinder the progress.
Furthermore, he urged Kenyans to embrace responsibility instead of relying on police officers for their security, “I want to tell Kenyans that our security doesn’t lie with the number of people you put on the ground, it starts with us trusting ourselves and understanding the time must come in the nation where other things matter,” he quipped, adding that the welfare of the children should be prioritized now, “We must not mess with the lives of our children.” This comes even as the country is embroiled in post-repeat polls turmoil and uncertainty, and the national exams will offer a shift of attention that may be needed at the moment.
