A father of newly born twins from Mukhalanya village, Chevaywa location in Matete Sub County has appealed to well-wishers to help him take care of the twins after their mother died a few minutes after delivery.

Speaking to West Media, 58-year-old Jotham Wamalwa narrated the painful ordeal his wife Truphena Muronje went through for almost five hours before she succumbed as he watched helplessly.

He said his wife started experiencing labour pain on Friday evening and called for a village midwife to help her. “It was raining heavily and I had to walk in the rain up to Chepsai village to call the midwife who quickly responded and accompanied me back and after examining her she said she was ready to deliver,” said Wamalwa.

He said after witnessing the pain his wife was going through he decided to take her to Lugulu Mission Hospital since Matete Health Centre has been affected by the ongoing nurses’ strike.

He said he couldn’t get any transport means to the hospital because of the weather adversity, and they had to go back to the house, given that his wife and the midwife had followed him, some metres away, waiting for him to get a boda boda.

However after walking few meters back towards the house, she was unable to continue and wanted to rest, “The weather was so cold and it was still drizzling my wife sat down to rest. After a few minutes she delivered a bouncing baby boy in such pathetic weather condition at about 9:30 pm,” said Wamalwa, adding that she gained strength and they slowly walked back to the house.

“After resting for a while she successfully delivered a baby girl and we were all happy after the safe delivery, however, our joy was short-lived as she died at about 1:00 am after losing a lot of blood,” said Wamalwa.

The father of seven from a humble background is now appealing to well-wishers to come to his aid saying he will not manage to take care of the twins. The children have not even been taken for medical examination.
