Plans to reinstate and establish the nation’s economy after the busy electioneering period are already underway. Meetings have been held this week to brief President Uhuru Kenyatta on the developments in the sectors of energy, water, and economy. On Wednesday the President met members of his economic team and African Development Bank(AfDB) team to discuss the continued implementation of the country’s transformational agenda.

Leaders attended the meeting convened by President Kenyatta at Harambee House, including Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, Principal Secretary Dr. Kamau Thugge, African Development Bank (AfDB) Director General Gabriel Negatu among others.

Options that could accelerate economic transformation in the country were presented, including programmes that can make Kenya competitive globally and at the same time improve the lives of Kenyans, “The primary goal has to be to lift the lives of ordinary Kenyans,” said President Kenyatta.

Earlier this week, President Kenyatta had another meeting at Harambee house, and he was also briefed on the progress in the government’s plan to make Nairobi and other cities water sufficient by the year 2020.

Ministry of Water and Irrigation officials led by Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa briefed the President on the projects the government is setting up to cater for the 250 million litre water deficit the city faces. The Northern Water Tunnel in Murang’a which is set to be completed soon will increase the water supply to Nairobi by 140 million litres, and the complete construction of the Karimeni 2 and Ruiru 2 dams will provide water estimated at 100 million litres or more to the city.

Furthermore, according to CS Wamalwa, there are plans to make Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru water sufficient, with Kisumu expected to be the first city which will be water sufficient after the completion of the Kisumu water supply project.
