The Supreme Court of Kenya on Monday 20th November upheld the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in October’s repeat presidential election.
Chief Justice David Maraga, announcing the verdict of all six of the judges, said the court dismissed the two legal challenges.
This time, the court unanimously upheld President Uhuru’s re-election throwing out the petitions on grounds that they had no merits.
The court nullified the August 8th election on account of illegalities and irregularities. Saying the election lacked proper transmission system and at the same time use of forms which did not have security features.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission organized a repeat election on October 26 which saw the incumbent win for a second time by garnering 7.4 million votes, which was 98 per cent of the votes cast.
Raila Odinga withdrew from the race claiming the electoral agency had not met his demands.
