The United Nations women in Africa(UNWA) stated that harassment to women and girls should completely be eliminated to save young girls and women from unending gender woes.

According to the UNWA, women and young girls are more exposed to various kinds of violence which include; abusive marriages, early child marriages, and male harassments from men and female genital mutilation among many other forms of violence.

Research by International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has shown that indigenous girls, adolescents and young women face a higher prevalence of violence, harmful practices and labour exploitation and harassment other than women.

Today being an international day for elimination of violence against women, the UN women together with other Gender Based Violence (GBV bodies in Africa are determined to end and create awareness of the recurring problem that women face not only in Africa but across the world.

“There is a lot of harassment in Public Vehicle Services (PSVs) on women and girls, I know many may not agree on this but it happens frequently. This war must be fought, let us speak and act, “said Nairobi Country senate speaker Beatrice Elachi.

She was speaking today in Nairobi during the GBV protests organized to sensitize the public on the gender based violence.

The Africa Youth Trust body has as well risen collectively in calling for end and immediate action for the perpetrators of GBV which undermines health, dignity, security and autonomy of victims.
