Vihiga Senator George Khaniri has urged Members of County Assemblies across the country to fight corruption in County governments. While addressing Vihiga County MCAs, Khaniri said corruption has thrived from the national government to the County governments and it must be tackled on all fronts.
“Corruption is a cancer that each one of us should strive to fight and cut off from the nation’s fabric before it consumes us all. The vice is so rampant in religious institutions, all government and public institutions, even in corruption watchdogs institutions, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Auditor General’s office,” Khaniri said.
He added that research by the East African Institute in 2016 confirmed that Kenyan youth fancy the idea of living with corruption noting that most Kenyans have been influenced to view corruption in life as acceptable.
The Senator said corruption thrives in the Counties, and one would think it’s viewed as one of the many devolved functions, “I encourage all of us to calculate the opportunity cost of corruption in terms of stunted development projects and the denied opportunity growth and development to our County and the population especially the future generation,” said Khaniri.
