Anxiety gripped Mukunga village, in Kongoni location Likuyani Sub County after one of the residents found an empty coffin dumped near his gate under mysterious circumstance.
According to Mr. Douglas Wanjala, he woke up at about six o’clock and spotted a red object placed near his gate and when he moved closer he was shocked to see the coffin which had been well covered with a red fabric and had a cross on the upper part. “The phenomena sent chills down my spine as I gazed at the object in disbelief,” said Wanjala.
He later informed local administrator and neighbours who thronged the scene to catch a glimpse of the shocking episode.
He said he has not established the motive behind the incidents saying he doesn’t have any personal differences with anyone who might have an intention of killing him or his family members.

Reiterating his disappointment over the incident, Wanjala’s father Mzee Jotham Nyongesa strongly condemned it arguing it was a sign of ill intention against his son’s family.
“According to African traditions, this is a sign of evil intention,” said Mzee Nyongesa who appealed to security apparatus in the area to carry a thorough investigation to unravel the motive behind it.
The bizarre incident attracted a mammoth crowd of area residents who milled around the coffin with some expressing fears of evil spirits casting bad omen on Wanjala’s homestead and advised the family to perform a ritual to cleanse it. The coffin was later destroyed by Wanjala’s family who burnt it into ashes.
