Before the dust settles following the wonder of a two-legged calf in Mbajo village, Musembe Sub location Lugari Sub County, another one has emerged where a heifer belonging to one of the residents in the same village has delivered a three-legged calf.
Villagers are at loss of what could have befallen locals following the incidents which some said was a sign of awful things to happen. The incident happened barely 200 metres away from a home where another cow delivered a two-legged calf late last month.
Mr. Charles Chitwa, a farmhand said the heifer developed labour pains before it delivered the deformed calf. He said they noticed something amiss when they tried to help the
heifer by pulling out the calf as they could only touch the head and one leg. “However the cow managed to deliver safely and we were shocked to see the deformity on one of the front leg with the calf walking on three legs,” said Chitwa adding it was the first time the cow was calving down and during pregnancy, it never showed strange signs justifying
what it delivered.
The Cow’s owner was not at home and could not be reached immediately for a comment. “We are feeding it and the rest of the herd well, as you can see the cow looks very healthy and is behaving normally,” said Chitwa.
According to him, he would have to wait until his employer returns to decide what to do with the deformed calf. “We shall continue feeding it well together with its mother until the
owners come back.” Last month, Henrietta Kadinya Indangasi’s cow gave birth to a deformed calve an incident that left villagers dumbfounded.
A local veterinary officer Wilson Maseng’eli said the deformities seen are as a result of genetic abnormalities.
