President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that all NTSA (National Transport and Safety Authority) officers will be withdrawn from the highways and traffic management will be fully handled by traffic police officers. Speaking in Meru during the burial service of three AIPCA Bishops who perished in a road accident, President Kenyatta said the government will continue to do whatever is possible to reduce road accidents. “As a government, we have decided in order to get a better order on our roads, all NTSA officers who have been on the roads will be withdrawn and traffic management will be left to the police,” he said.
He asserted that the role of road safety doesn’t belong to the government alone, “The road safety role belongs to all of us,” he said, citing that more than 80 percent of road accidents are caused by careless driving, given that some people don’t want to observe traffic rules, while others over speed. “The government will play its part but every Kenyan must also play his or her part,” reiterated President Kenyatta.
