Three people sustained serious injuries after a truck rammed into a
business premise at Mukhonje trading center a long Eldoret – Webuye
highway in Matete Sub County.

According to eye witnesses  the truck which was ferrying top dres

fertilizer lost control after brakes failure as it was descending
towards Mukhonje trading centre before it veered off the road as  the
back part got dis-joined and fell leaving the cabin to go alone
crashing four motorbikes and later ploughed its way into the building.

The driver and his conductor together with a woman who was in the
building sustained serious injuries before they were rescued and
rushed to Webuye sub county hospital.

According to the premise owner Mr. Wycliffe Nyota he was relaxing with
his family inside the building when the truck lost control and rammed
into it.

He said his wife sustained serious injuries after the wall collapsed
on her while he and their three children escaped with bruises.

Mr. Nyota who runs two shops together with an Mpesa kiosk in the
affected building said he had lost property worth over Kshs. 500, 000.

“Some residents took advantage of the situation to loot my property
before police arrived here and stopped further looting,” said Mr.
Nyota.

Boda boda riders who operates from the Mukhonje stage also escaped
death by a whisker after they were forced to run for safety leaving
their motorbike behind which were crashed by the truck.

“We were forced to leave our motorbikes and run for our dear lives, my
two bikes valued at about 160,000 have been completely destroyed,”
said Mr. Andrew Okondo adding that four motorbikes had been crashed by
the truck.

The incidents follows a similar one at the same centre where another
truck lost control and ploughed into a house killing a mother and her
seven year old son while they were asleep a fortnight ago. .
