Following the corruption report by EACC last week, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has urged Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba to sack all corrupt County officers implicated in any scam within a week or there will be a demonstration seeking to oust him from office. Trans Nzoia was ranked as the second most corrupt County in the country, and Deputy Governor Stanley Tarus admitted the report was indeed accurate.
Speaking in Kitale, Amisi said the Trans Nzoia County leadership must come together and deal with corruption in several offices, adding that the vice shouldn’t be tolerated. He said, as leaders, they aren’t walking shamelessly, and are perturbed with the manner corruption has taken root in the County. “We aren’t happy with the turn of events in this County. We were ranked as the second most corrupt County in the nation, we aren’t happy and this should stop,” said Amisi.
He said in order for the Governor to clear his name, he should act and fire all culpable County workers. “We urge Governor Khameba to leave a good legacy that will be remembered by residents. He should be remembered for fighting graft in his administration, if not, then history will judge him severely like the former South Africa President Jacob Zuma, who tolerated corruption,” he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, who appealed to Governor Khaemba to clean his house and sack corrupt workers. He said the report is disheartening to all leaders in the County, adding that all leaders should come together irrespective of party affiliations to deal with corruption in order to restore the image of the polarized County brought about by corruption.
Wanyonyi said he’ll personally visit Governor Khaemba to discuss the corruption conundrum, and look for ways to solve the problems amicably as County leaders.
