Kamusinga girls joined their counterparts Kimilili boys to qualify for the handball finals pocketing a ticket to represent Kenya in the East and Central Africa games in Kigali Rwanda in August this year
Bungoma county based Moi girls Kamusinga thrashed Kwanthanze from Eastern region 29-12 in the first semifinal as defending champions St Annes Sega from Nyanza booked a final slot after beating St Joseph’s Kirandich of Rift Valley 20-14.
It will be a repeat of last year’s final as Sega girls faces Moi Girls Kamusinga.
However Godfrey Simiyu, Moi Girls Kamusinga head coach insisted that his main ambition was to qualify for the East and Central Africa games in Kigali although he’s going to do his best to hammer Sega in the final. “My plan was to qualify. We came here to win our games. In the final, we shall display all our efforts to beat Sega. We know them well as we
had met last year whereby we have worked on our mistakes to tackle them off.” Said Simiyu.
On the other end, Kimilili boys from Western region defeated Rift Valley representatives Saniak boys after whipping them 24-17 in the first semifinal.
Nduluni accepted a huge defeat of 37-19 in the hands of Kanyawanga, giving Kanyawanga a chance to battle out with Kimilili in the final on Saturday.
In hockey girls, Western region’s Tigoi eliminated Kerugoya of Central region after beating them 4-0 as Trans Nzoia mixed secondary from Rift Valley won 4-1 in penalty shootouts against Nyamira, after the two had drawn 1-1 in normal time.
Tigoi now meets Trans Nzoia Mixed secondary school in the hockey final as the two set to represent Kenya in the East and Central Africa games in Kigali Rwanda in August.
Musingu boys accepted a defeat of 1-0 from defending champions St Anthony’s of Rift Valley as Upper hill from Nairobi booked a final slot against St Anthony’s after beating East and Central Africa champions Kisumu Day high school 1-0.
In basketball girls category Butere of Western region thrashed Nairobi based Buruburu girls 63-53 in a pulsating semifinal one match to reserve a final niche against Kaya Tiwi of Coast region who pummeled Loreto 31-29 in the second semifinal.
The two had however met in the preliminary games as Butere thumped them off 74-65. Sigalame high of Western region on the other end defeated Meru school 86-43 in the first semifinal booking a final spot against Laiser hill who battered Ambira 55-23 in semifinal two.
Kakamega high school accepted a slight defeat of 20-16 in the hands of Menengai from Rift Valley in rugby 15’s booking a spot with St Mary’s Yala in third place playoffs slated for Saturday. St Mary’s Yala lost to Upper Hill by 24-3.
