Three women groups in Bungoma get Hydraulic machines

Three groups from Tongaren, Kanduyi and Webuye west constituencies are beneficiaries of hydraulic machines that will be used to make bricks for sale after the office of the woman representative presented to them the machines.

Speaking during the occasion Bungoma County women representative Catherine Wambilianga said the three groups were arrived at after perusing their proposals saying they emerged top and will be used as a pilot project.

She applauded the efforts of those involved in securing the machines saying it will help the groups a great deal in ensuring they have a source of income of their own rather than depending on their husbands for upkeep.

However she said the machines will also be used by other groups in the ward saying the groups that benefitted will have to ensure they save their earning and start up alternative development projects during the time that the machines will be used by other groups.

Hon Wambilianga said she will be regularly visiting the groups to gauge their progress saying they will also qualify for grants if they are hardworking enough.

“I will also start up a community based project dubbed mama inua mama that will be a platform of ensuring women come together and benefit from a kitty that will help them start different development project” she said

The women representative further assured the groups of securing them market for their bricks saying she will liaise with school managements to have them promote the groups.

Bungoma County government housing CEC Bramwel Murgor expressed his commitment to work with different women groups in the county saying they are also formulating a policy that will ensure the bricks are recommended for construction in schools.

Local leaders including MCA’s led by Bungoma County deputy speaker Simiyu Wamusai said  they will support the policy saying banning usage of bricks for construction is a destructive policy that needs to be done away with to improve the economy of the county.

In another forum the women representative rescued a form three girl from Marobo village who had eloped to Matuu in Machakos County after falling in love with a boyfriend over Facebook.

Hon Wambilianga said she was contacted by the girls’ parents and she followed up the issue and found the girl saying she will take her back to school to pursue her education and called upon parents to provide guidance to their children.

She said the issue of Cyber crime has become rampant and it is being discussed in the national assembly and warned those who are taking advantage of school children that they will be prosecuted.
