Nurses in Vihiga County are up in arms with County Government over their delayed salaries. Speaking during the launch of the Nurses Week, a time when the nurses give back to the community at Vihiga County Referral Hospital in Mbale Town the Kenya National Union of Nurses Chairman Vihiga branch Zadock Miheso said nurses are not paid on time by the County government.
He said most of the nurses cannot cater for their families and end up in debts because of the delay in salary payment by the County government.
“We are a disturbed lot because our salaries are always delayed and some of us cannot get to work because we have no money to cater for our transport and this might result to poor service delivery,” he said.
Miheso tasked the County government to equip all health facilities in the area for better service delivery.
The County chief nurse Mrs. Benerdit Savakwa said they have drafted a proposal for employment of more nurses, the proposal will be tabled in the County Assembly soon.
“The document is ready and it’s going to be tabled at the County Assembly to compel the County government to employ more nurses in all of our health facilities in the County,” Savakwa said.
