Babu Owino’s Embakasi East election has been upheld by the Court of Appeal. A three-judge bench ruled on Friday that the earlier nullification of the August 8th 2017 Emabakasi East election result was not founded on the law. The judges said the irregularities noted in the results did not affect the final outcome and that Justice Joseph Sergon, who nullified the results, didn’t demonstrate how violence affected the final outcome.
Speaking after the ruling, a delighted Babu Owino said justice has been served and told his constituents he is ready to serve them, “They elected an intelligent and competent leader who’ll serve their interests.” He urged his opponents to move forward and help him to serve the people of Embakasi East, “There is a time for everything, a time to be led and a time to lead, this is a time for my opponents to be led,” he said, “I believe they have leadership in them, I won’t dismiss them as opponents but I’ll embrace them and I will pray that God one day will help them achieve their dreams.”
On his part, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna encouraged Babu Owino to start work in his constituency and to keep in mind that he is one of the references when it comes to youth leadership in Kenya, “Through your work may you be an encouragement to young people when it comes to participation in elections.”
