Property worth thousands of shillings was destroyed after a fierce fire razed down a cereals store in Mwamba village, Lumakanda location within Lugari Sub County. Confirming the incident Lugari OCPD Benedict Mwangangi said the fire broke out at about 1200hrs in the home of Mr. Caleb Ainea who lives in Nairobi adding that the incident was reported by a good samaritan who was passing by.

“It was reported by a good samaritan through telephone that there was fire burning some property at a home within Mwamba village. Officers from Turbo police station visited the scene where they found a store, made of timber and iron sheets, engulfed by fire at the home of one Caleb Aineah who stays in Nairobi,” said Mwangangi.

The OCPD said the fire spread tremendously and nothing could be salvaged from the store where assorted property had been kept. “All the items in the store that included among others approximately 50 bags of maize, hundreds of stored timbers, a construction concrete
mixer machine among other things, all of unknown value, were burnt totally and the store was razed to ground,” said Mwangangi.

The OCPD said preliminary investigations have hinted that the fire may
have been caused by an electric fault. No casualty was reported following the incident.
