Vihiga County Health CEC Dr. Amos Kutwa has revealed Kshs 40 million will be spent on the renovation of all Sub County hospitals. Dr. Kutwa said that Vihiga County Referral hospital will get the largest share, Kshs 10 million, to cater for its facelift programme.
He added that Hamisi, Sabatia, Emuhaya Sub County hospitals will receive Kshs 5.5 million each for renovation. “Emusire health centre in Emuhaya Sub County has been put under the programme and will also be renovated and promoted to a Sub County hospital,” said the CEC.
He was speaking at Emuhaya Sub County hospital while on a tour of health facilities in the County. Medical Health Chief Officer Dr Arnold Mamadi accompanied him.
He added that Governor Wilber Ottichilo visited the hospitals to assess their state before authorizing for the renovations of the institutions. “Renovations have already started at the Referral hospital,” he said.
Mamadi pointed out that the health institutions were in a bad state that is why the Governor allocated money for renovations so as to give the facilities new looks.
He added that the hospitals will be re-painted, new roofs put up, and other maintenance programmes.
The CO added that the County will also equip the hospitals with adequate facilities for quality service delivery
He explained that male wards will be constructed at Emuhaya, Hamisi and Emusire health facilities, and mortuaries will be put up at Emusire and Hamisi hospitals. Mamadi added that all these efforts are aimed at decongesting the referral hospital in Mbale
He said most patients were being referred to Mbale because most facilities in Sub Counties were not adequately equipped to provide the needed medical services to patients who visit them. Kutwa said currently all hospitals have been supplied with adequate drugs and that measures have been put in place to curb theft of drugs.
