Migori Governor Okoth Obado has broken his silence after the death of the late Sharon Otieno. During a press briefing in Nairobi, Obado refuted any links with the murder and urged politicians, the press to stop what he termed as ‘medieval punishments’, “I want to call upon politicians and the media to avoid medieval punishments and proclamations so that our agencies that are charged with investigations are given time to do their job,” he said.

He said he has nothing to do with the death of the late Sharon and urged government agencies to hasten investigations, “I want to urge all government agencies, all agencies mandated with the investigations to speed up their work so that the real killers can be brought to book as first as possible.”

The slain Rongo University student, whose body was found on Tuesday last week in Kodera forest, Homa Bay County, after being kidnapped, was stabbed eight times, raped and strangled, according to an autopsy. Barrack Oduor, a Nation journalist who was kidnapped along with her, managed to jump out of the moving vehicle that fateful Monday.

On Wednesday, judge Luka Kimaru ruled that Obado’s PA Micheal Oyamo should be detained for fourteen days-at Muthaga police station-as investigations continue.

The Governor, who was accompanied by family members to the press briefing-his wife, son, and daughter- refused to comment further on the case after questions from journalists, citing that it’s still under investigation, however, he denied the suggestion that he had taken too long after the murder incident to make a public statement.
