Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has urged the Luhya community to strengthen their unity ahead of 2022 general elections and not to allow greedy politicians to continue creating divisions in the community in order to gain political leverage. Speaking in Lugari constituency, Babu Owino said the Luhya community has adequate numbers to seek the leadership of this nation but it’s disappointing that despite having enough willpower to till the political landscape it has failed to do so due to disunity among the community. “Political power lies within a community’s united strength. Therefore time is ripe for Luhyas to forge that unity of purpose if they hope to clinch the presidency of this republic,” said Babu Owino.

He said it is high time residents from Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga and Busia Counties, majorly the populous Luhya community, buried tribal and individualistic tendencies that have for a long time created divisions among them as they seek to produce the first President from the community.

He said it’s sad to see Luhya leaders take divergent positions instead of uniting and forging ahead together in a bid that will see one of their own ascend to the Presidency. “It’s a pity that Luhyas have simply agreed to remain stepping stones for other tribes yet you have the capacity of supporting one of your own,” said Babu Owino.

He, however, caused a light moment when he urged the community to rally their support behind former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who has on several occasions enunciated that he has close relational ties with the Luhya community.
