Bungoma County Roads CEC Collins Mukhongo has challenged youths to join politics and fight for leadership positions at all levels instead of being used as campaigning tools. Speaking during the finals of the Noah Chiuli tournament at Ndivisi primary school ground at Ndivisi Ward, Webuye East, Mukhongo said youths should target all seats from the ward level to the presidential seat, adding that older people have served their time and they have to grant opportunities to the younger generation.
He said it’s sad to see many youths used by leaders and are thereafter abandoned after being given small financial favors in the form of handouts instead of receiving assistance to easily access loans or get jobs. He lauded Bungoma residents for electing a youthful Governor, “We’ll always appreciate you, the people of Webuye and Bungoma for electing youthful Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, and we assure you we’ll deliver and together we’ll change the County, by improving roads, schools and even helping our farmers,” said the Roads CEC.
He also urged Bungoma residents to support the County government to ensure the County moves forward in terms of development, saying he’ll make sure his ministry does its job to ensure the roads are in good shape. He appreciated the fact that youths are engaged in activities that will develop talent and would help them to earn a living in the future.
On his part, Noah Chiuli, who put together the tournament, lauded the youths who participated and promised that he’ll continue supporting them, County Special Programs Director Caro Buyela pledged to support the youths especially the girls child, and urged men to desist form wrecking the girls’ lives and their education path by taking advantage of them. The winners of the tournament received medals and Kshs 30,000 and pairs of shoes and jerseys.
