A group of leaders from Western Kenya have urged Kenyans to consider Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya for the Presidency in 2022. The leaders, who said they are convinced about Oparanya’s fitness to take the mantle, were speaking at the funeral ceremony of the late Major Wellingtone Alubiri of Khwisero’s Kisa Central Ward at Shianda Primary grounds in Butere Sub-County.
Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama said Governor Oparanya is equal to the task and that the Luhya community should favourably consider the Governor’s ambition. Hon. Benard Shinali of Ikolomani and his Shinyalu counterpart Hon. Kizito Mugali described Governor Oparanya’s development record as a true reflection of the potential of devolution, endorsing him for the top job.
Hon. MPs Christopher Omulele (Luanda, Vihiga) Fred Kapondi (Mount Elgon, Bungoma) and Christopher Aseka (Khwisero) extolled the Kakamega Governor as a friendly, competent and likeable leader preferred by the electorate. Oparanya on his part reminded leaders to remain calm and hopeful of the outcome of the ongoing talks between him and the ANC Party Leader Hon. Musalia Mudavadi.
Major Wellingtone was a respected servant of God with the Salvation Army who extended his arm touching people’s lives in different spheres. The Governor later condoled the family members, friends and relatives of a renown ecomomist, the late Mzee Harrison Osundwa Ekombe of Shianda-Marenyo Ward in Butere Sub-County. The Governor asked all the 12 Sub-County Administrators to ensure parents and guardians in the entire Kakamega County take their children to school to secure a brighter future.
